Nani's Angels was created from a deeply personal experience. When my granddaughter was about 15 months old, I began noticing she was not reaching certain developmental milestones. Like many families, I told myself every child develops at their own pace. However, by the age of 3, she was still nonverbal, avoided eye contact, and often seemed to be in her own world.

Hoping a preschool environment would help, I enrolled her in school and explained that she was not speaking yet. Within just a few hours, the school called and explained they could not accommodate her needs because she required one-on-one attention.

That was the moment I knew I had to seek answers. Her pediatrician expressed concerns about developmental delays and possible autism and referred us to a neurologist. That's when our journey truly began.

As I searched throughout Miami-Dade and Broward County, every specialist had waiting lists that were 10 to 12 months long. Everywhere I turned, I was told to wait. There were very few resources available, little guidance, and no support during the period before an official diagnosis.

Like many grandparents and parents, I was forced to put my life on hold. I stopped working because I could not leave her in a traditional setting that wasn't equipped to support her needs, and I did not feel comfortable leaving her with someone unfamiliar with caring for a nonverbal child.

Nani's Angels was born to bridge that gap. Our mission is to provide families with a safe haven, support, and peace of mind during one of the most uncertain times of their journey. No family should have to wait for answers without having a place to turn.
